Democrat Texas State Representative Senfronia Thompson compared a threat from Governor Greg Abbott to have her and her colleagues arrested when they return to Texas to the plight of being a “slave” on the run.
Last week, a group of over 50 lawmakers took a flight out of state to Washington, D.C. to avoid voting on Republican election integrity bills in the state legislature.
Abbott almost immediately warned that “once they (the Texas Democrats) step back into the state they will be arrested and brought back to the Capitol.”
“We refuse to be a hostage, to remain a hostage within the state of Texas,” Thompson said at a press conference in Alexandria, Va. late last week.
“And I know that there are search warrants out for us. I’m ready to be arrested,” she continued. “What do you do to a slave if you don’t do nothing but arrest them when they flee?”
“We refuse to be [hostages]…I am an American and I want to vote.”
We are simply asking for the right to vote. Democrats like Dean @Senfronia4Texas will fight as long as it takes to combat the exclusionary and discriminatory voter suppression attempts by Republicans. #txlege pic.twitter.com/b1WDc14ikK

Thompson is just one of many Texas Democrats who took the action of fleeing the state in order to avoid working on behalf of their constituents and have since been playing the victim card.
Houston-area representative Gene Wu sought sympathy for having to eat a salad as a “fugitive.”
Rep. Donna Howard heartbreakingly revealed that she was forced to hand wash her own laundry for some reason in her $200 per night hotel.
You bet we’re recognizing & honoring our country’s heritage. As most Texans, tho, this is what we’re doing tonight—using whatever is accessible, uwashing our clothes in the sink. #txlege https://t.co/HC8uDSnWk5 pic.twitter.com/DoaatSCqmj

Thompson’s comments are, perhaps, the most reprehensible of all.
Nothing quite minimizes the true tragedy that was slavery in America, a tragedy no Democrat has actually lived in their lifetime, than to suggest you’re experiencing what actual slaves experienced.
“We fled Texas,” Thompson admitted, “and if they want to arrest me, go ahead. I’m ready to be arrested.”
Good. Then there should be no debate.
“I am tired of sitting as a hostage in a Texas House of Representatives while Republicans strip away the rights of my constituents to vote.”

Playing The Victim
Thompson, you may recall, aside from wanting you to believe she is the equivalent of a ‘slave,’ was the same Texas Democrat who led her colleagues in the embarrassing stunt of singing “We Shall Overcome” at a press conference early on in the clown show.
This isn’t even good parody. Texas delegates start singing “we shall overcome…” –

Aside from Texas Democrats suggesting they are slaves, other members of their party have compared them to heroes of the civil rights movement.
Vice President Kamala Harris said the COVID-spreading runaways “took bold, courageous action in line with the legacy of Frederick Douglass, to the legacy that involves women who marched down Pennsylvania Avenue, and all those folks who shed blood on the bridge in 1965 to pass the Voting Rights Act.”
Harris’ comments prompted criticism from Fox News host Harris Faulkner, who demanded she rethinks her words.
“I want her to recognize that people are not being beaten in the streets right now, that we are not at the same place that we were and unless we are very careful, we could go to new places we don’t want to be,” Faulkner said.
Sen. John Kennedy (R-LA) blasted the Texas Democrats for playing the victim with comments comparing themselves to either being a slave or being heroes of the civil rights movement.
You know this dude spent weeks workshopping this line so he could get it ready for Hannity.

“They have no basis to play the victim,” Kennedy told Fox News personality Sean Hannity, adding that they’ll fit right in in Washington because it’s “a lot like high school except no one ever graduates.”
The Louisiana Republican then said any Democrats who don’t understand that voter ID is a necessity are either “so dumb, you lose your place during sex” or they “want to cheat.”
