Sterling among four Man City candidates for Kane ‘part exchange’ transfer

Raheem Sterling is one of four candidates that could be offered to Tottenham as part of the deal to bag star striker Harry Kane.

Kane is reportedly set on leaving his boyhood club this summer and Manchester City is the likely destination for the England captain.

However, with Kane’s Spurs deal running until 2024 the side will have to pay an enormous amount to sign him.

It was widely reported in June that Tottenham had rejected an offer of around €115m and so it is thought Pep Guardiola’s side will throw in a star player to lower the amount.

England talisman Sterling, Bernardo Silva, Riyad Mahrez and Gabriel Jesus are amongst those in contention to be offered in a part-exchange, according to L’Equipe.

The publication continues that it could be tricky to bag Kane even with a player thrown in as new boss Nuno Espirito Santo is determined to keep the striker at the club.

Asked about Kane earlier this week, the new Tottenham manager said: “All the conversations that we had, all of the squad that we have available – and we have a lot of good players – I can count on. I am counting on each and every one of them.

“I had a lot of meetings, we spoke about a lot of things. But one thing is for sure, what we speak about between us, stays between us.

“What I can say about that is Harry Kane is one of the best football players in the world and he’s with us, he’s our player, he’s Tottenham’s player. That can make us very proud.”

Kane spoke about his club future earlier this year.

He told Gary Neville’s YouTube channel The Overlap : “I think it’s definitely a conversation to be had with the club. I want to be playing in the biggest games. The biggest moments.

“Like, this season I’m there watching the Champions League, watching the English teams in there doing amazing.

“They are the games that I want to be involved in. I want to be in them games.

“So for sure, it’s a moment in my career where I have to kind of reflect and see where I’m at and have a good, honest conversation with the chairman. I hope that we can have that conversation.

“I’m sure that he’ll want to set out the plan of where he sees it but ultimately it’s going to be down to me and how I feel and what’s going to be the best for me and my career in this moment in time.

“I hope we have a good enough relationship. I’ve given the club… well, I’ve been there 16 years of my life.

“So, I hope that we can have a good, honest conversation and see where we are at in that aspect.”

Sterling has been linked with an exit in the transfer window after having an underwhelming season in the Premier League before an impressive Euro 2020.

Whoever buys the star will have been impressed with his performances over the summer, where he scored three goals for England.

The Three Lions reached their first major tournament final in 55 years but lost to Italy on penalties.
