Southgate issues final rallying cry as he tells England to “bring everything”

Gareth Southgate has told his players to “bring everything” to win the Euros and write their names into English football legend.

Southgate begins his campaign against Croatia at Wembley on Sunday with a rallying cry to his players as he insisted that they can handle the big game pressure.

England boss Southgate said: “We have to show that. Some of our youngest players have got experience of big games and tournaments are about hitting form at the right time.

“We have to bring everything over the next four weeks.”

It is a glorious chance for England to win their first trophy since 1966 and they have got home advantage again as they look to take one more step after reaching the World Cup semi finals three years ago.

But Southgate has also warned that England cannot underestimate Croatia having lost to them in the World Cup semi final three years ago.

Southgate also insisted that while they must show passion, they must also be controlled in their Group opener on Sunday especially in hot temperatures.

Southgate, talking to ITV, said: “It puts an emphasis on us keeping the ball well Historically, some of those opening matches England have flown out of the blocks, we haven’t kept the ball as well and we have suffered later in stages of games.

“We’ve got to look at the strengths of our team. How do we pose Croatia as many problems as we can?

“I think people are dismissing them a little bit quickly. They’ve got big match experience and incredible spirit in their group.

“We are going to have some young players on the pitch there is no doubt about that. So how do we balance that with players that have had big match experience are good talkers?

“But in any team you have to have the balance right, be able to defend and pose the opposition a threat.”
