The tiny city state of Singapore – smaller than New York City – is right now one of the cruise capitals of the world. About one-third of the world’s cruises depart from Singapore – and every sailing is a cruise to nowhere.
Royal Caribbean Cruises and Genting’s Dream Cruises have been operating short sailings since late last year, and do far more than 120,000 Singapore residents have taken a cruise, Singapore Tourism Board Chief Executive Officer Keith Tan.
Tan played down Singapore’s current status as the world’s busiest cruise hub an knows it won’t last. “Let me just say this in context — one-third of global cruise throughput in a time when virtually all other cruise destinations and cruise ports have stopped or are not moving at all is nothing to crow about,” Tan said.
