Mikel Arteta makes special dedication after “one the nicest feelings” as Arsenal boss

Mikel Arteta celebrated his best day as Arsenal manager at the Emirates by dedicating victory to the fans.

Arteta saw Emile Smith-Rowe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bukayo Saka smash Tottenham to climb above their north London rivals as the club recorded their 600th win in the Premier League.

Gunners boss Arteta said: “It was one of the nicest feelings that I had certainly in this stadium. It was a big occasion for us, a big game, to win it the way we did and to feel that connection. It made it really special.

“This win is for them [fans], they’ve been incredible in tough moments when we needed the support and it doesn’t get much better than the atmosphere we saw here so it’s for them.

“The determination, the conviction and the connection with the people in such a special day, they came here to do what we spoke before the game, they put it in an incredible way and I don’t know, this isn’t about football, it’s the energy here when the crowd is with you.

“It’s not about winning, it’s the way we’ve done it against a top team with top players and it’s the most special day when we play our rivals.

“Today is one example of what we are trying to do, now we have to be consistent and do it than we have in some aspects of the game.”

Arteta reserved special praise for captain Aubameyang who rediscovered his best form to lead the turnaround as Arsenal were bottom after three games, Tottenham top and now the Gunners have gone above them.

“I’m really happy with the performance today the performance against Burnley and what he is doing,” said Arteta.

“When he is getting criticised and we ask him to do more he always puts his head down. Now I can tell you he’s really leading the team.”

But Arteta admitted he is concerned that Granit Xhaka has suffered a serious injury after a freak collision with Lucas Moura late on.

Arteta added: “I’m pretty worried because it does not look very good at the moment.”

Aubameyang revealed the players had heart-to-heart talks after losing their opening three games and are reaping the benefits now.

He said: “It means everything, it means the world, we gave everything for them today, they pushed us, I can’t describe it, it’s an amazing feeling when you are a player and have fans like this, it’s really unbelievable.

“I think we are doing a good run of games now, I think after the game against City it was time to have a chat between us players and this is what we did.

“We want to go forward and win games, this was important for us to make things clear and I think we are doing well right now and the feeling is good.”
