Manchester United are set to call Jesse Lingard’s bluff ahead of the January transfer window.
The midfielder is yet to sign a new contract, with his current deal at Old Trafford set to expire at the end of the season.
There was heavy speculation that the England international would leave in the summer amid interest from West Ham.
Lingard had spent the second half of last season on loan in east London, where he was a massive hit.
But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was reluctant to see the 28-year-old leave and blocked any chance of a departure, which led to David Moyes signing Nikola Vlasic instead.
However, it leaves United in a precarious situation with Lingard now set to depart for nothing at the end of the season.
Negotiations have been going on over the season on a new contract as the Red Devils look to tie him down.
According to The Sun, they have offered the Warrington-born star a pay increase of £135,000-a-week and there is every chance that he could sign.
Lingard would be happy to stay at Old Trafford but wants assurances that he is to be handed a bigger role.
But United are ready to call him out this January if a new contract is not signed by then and are prepared to sell him off.

The three Premier League clubs are interested in Lingard, who was valued at closer to £25m in the summer.
The Magpies have entered the race for the player after their takeover which made them the richest club in the world.
And former United and West Ham star Rio Ferdinand has told the Toon to snap up Lingard, as well as Declan Rice and Raheem Sterling.
He said on his YouTube show Vibe with Five: “I’d be going to try and make like a mad couple of signings, like huge, that I think would be gettable.
“I’d be looking at people like Raheem Sterling. Raheem Sterling’s not playing regularly, I’d go ask him the question. I’d go and ask Declan Rice, ‘What’s going on?’
“Them two would be the first two on my list, and I’d go all out to go and get them. And then I’d be trying to get people like Jesse Lingard, who’s in and around the United squad.”
