Luis Suarez shares picture following injury blow in Atletico Madrid training

Luis Suarez has sent a message to Atletico Madrid fans to ease their concerns after he suffered an injury during training earlier this week.

The Uruguayan forward, 34, has been crucial to Atleti’s La Liga title challenge this season, netting 19 goals to help his side top the table.

But with just one point separating them and closest rivals Barcelona, disaster struck for Los Rojiblancos when Suarez pulled up with a muscle problem in a practice session.

“Luis Suarez has suffered a muscle injury in his left leg,” a statement from the club read.

“Our player, after feeling some discomfort in training this Wednesday, underwent tests with the club’s medical services that confirmed the injury of the Uruguayan international.

“It is pending evolution.”

However Suarez has now moved to allay any fears regarding his fitness amid concerns he could be sidelined until the end of the season.

Posting an image of himself on social media with his leg bandaged, he wrote: “Thank you all very much for the messages of support.

” Now to recover as soon as possible to try to help the team !!!! I will never stop fighting to get back fast.”

It is thought Suarez could miss the majority of Atleti’s fixtures throughout April, during which time they face Real Betis, Eibar, Huesca and Athletic Bilbao.

Suarez was already set to sit out the clash with Betis on Sunday, but his absence will be felt for any other matches he is not on the field, particularly with Atleti’s second top scorer Marcos Llorente also out this weekend.

A more realistic target is for Suarez to be back at least in time for the crunch showdown with Barcelona on May 9.

Both Barca and Real Madrid will be hoping to capitalise on Atletico’s unfortunate problem in the coming weeks but meet each other this weekend in another huge clash in the title race.

Madrid are just two points off Barca and three behind Atletico, with nine games remaining for each team this season.
