Lionel Messi gives Real Madrid transfer hope with comments on Kylian Mbappe

Lionel Messi has given hope to the possibility of Paris Saint-Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe joining Real Madrid in the future.

Madrid lodged a world record bid – which Sky Sports reported to be in excess of €220million – which received no response from PSG in the closing hours of the summer transfer window.

The French attacking star is out of contract in the French capital next summer and with contract talks with Les Parisiens at a standstill, a transfer appears to be a possibility.

That scenario made this summer’s events all the more remarkable with a world record transfer rejected ahead of the possibility of a deal without a transfer fee the following year.

Madrid have invested a lot of time and energy into their long-term transfer target, who appears set to play this season to a backdrop of significant doubt over his future.

Indeed, significant sections of the French club’s fanbase decided to boo the striker when his name was read out over the tannoy system and when he touched the ball during recent Ligue 1 matches.

The 22-year-old is a priority for the Spanish giants next year and will theoretically be allowed to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with them from January 1.

That is despite the fact that Mbappe continues to play a pivotal role in PSG’s attack alongside his new teammate Messi and Neymar, who form a fearsome attacking trio.

Messi did not hesitate when asked about his new attacking teammate, as he assured that “with a player like Mbappe it is easy to get along.”

Messi went on to give another message that would no doubt give further hope to fans of Los Blancos that a deal may be in the pipeline in the near future.

Messi continued: “In addition, Kylian speaks perfect Spanish, so we also have good conversations off the pitch. It makes things easier.”

The fact that Mbappe is already a fluent Spanish speaker means that any future move to Madrid would be significantly smoother due to his ability to immediately fit in linguistically.

There are said to be contingency plans already being put in place in the French capital for the possible eventuality that Mbappe could exit as a free agent next summer.

The Ligue 1 club are said to already be sounding out replacements for their star striker, including the future availability of Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland.

Real Madrid are keen to bring Mbappe to the club to lead their attacking line alongside Karim Benzema, whom he now partners at international level for France.

Messi also spoke of Madrid striker Benzema’s fantastic year and believes that he is one of the leading candidates to win this year’s Ballon d’Or award – for which the Argentine and Mbappe have also been shortlisted.

The Argentine said of Benzema that “he was excellent ” throughout the year and one of the best players in the world.
