Gabby Petito update – live: Coroner alludes to domestic violence as autopsy reveals cause of death

Watch live as coroner gives update on Gabby Petito autopsy

The Teton County Coroner Dr Brent Blue, revealed on Tuesday that Gabby Petito died of strangulation.

According to Dr Blue, Ms Petito died 3-4 weeks before her body was located on 19 September. The coroner said that under Wyoming state law he could only release the manner and cause of death. All other details concerning the autopsy are not open to the public.

A private investigator suggested Ms Petito was asphyxiated. He came to this conclusion having seen a bodycam video with Utah police, involving Ms Petito and Brian Laundrie.

The parents of Mr Laundrie have been filmed clearing away discarded items left behind by protesters outside their home.

Chris and Roberta Laundrie were spotted on Sunday evening moving white laundry bins that had been left there. A poster with an image of Gabby Petito was also reportedly moved.

A police manhunt for Mr Laundrie remains without leads after a Florida nature reserve was searched, and there is only a 50 per cent chance the missing man is still alive, police have said.

Josh Taylor, the North Port police spokesperson, told CNN that nothing significant linked to Mr Laundrie has been found in the Carlton Reserve, but searches will continue until police receive more information.

It comes as a bounty hunter involved in the search said he was withdrawing from the operation after suffering an ankle injury.

TikToker asks public how to ‘survive being a Brian Laundrie lookalike’

A TikToker who goes by the handle @bordhead went online and sought the public’s help in “surviving as a Brian Laundrie lookalike”.

In a video, he said that he was flying across the country for his cousin’s wedding the next day. “It is a pretty long flight and so if you have any tips for me on how not to get attacked or accused of being this guy.”

One user suggested: “Need a t-shirt that says, ‘Not Brian.’ Another asked him to shave. “You don’t have the same underbite it’ll be easier that way.”

It was previously reported that some Brian Laundrie doppelgangers had started wearing special T-shirts from Etsy to ensure they were not confused with the fugitive.

Several Etsy shops started selling t-shirts that read “I am just Bald. Nope I am not Brian Laundrie.”

Meanwhile, the coroner on Tuesday revealed that Gabby Petito was strangled.

Brian Laundrie, who has been identified as a person of interest in the case, is still missing.

Domestic Violence survivors urge others to speak out after Gabby autopsy update

Domestic violence survivors banded together on social media after the Teton County coroner, Dr Brent Blue, revealed the cause of Gabby Petito’s death was manual strangulation.

Dr Blue refused to divulge more details about the investigation, citing the state law, but alluded to the Petito case being connected to domestic violence – suggesting other such cases did not receive the same attention.

Police have previously released bodycam footage of officers speaking to Petito and her boyfriend Brian Laundrie after the two got into a fight, just a couple of weeks before she went missing.

On social media, several survivors posted about their own experiences with domestic violence.

One user wrote: “I was Gabby age during my DV. It took me 7yr to get out. I have kept it deep down inside of me as I was ashamed & silent about it until this case happened. The bodycam video of her awoke something in me. I can’t explain it. I will not be silent anymore. I want to help others [sic].”

Another said: “There’s so many that have experienced DV. Aug 1991, I waited till my x husband went to work, then packed bags and went to a women’s shelter with my kids. He use to say to me “if you don’t like it there’s the door” I knew he wouldn’t let me take my kids… so I left secretly [sic].”

Yet another user said: “So many of us recognised what was going on after the first Moab video. For me, it was when Brian told the officers that Gabby was crazy. I knew right then he was totally gaslighting her and manipulating the officers.”

The Teton County Coroner who conducted an autopsy on Gabby Petito briefly alluded to domestic violence on Tuesday but refused to go into detail citing the state law.
