Tottenham Hotspur may have already confirmed the arrivals of three new signings this summer but actions have already been taken to ensure more players will walk through the doors ahead of next season.
Spurs remain in the hunt for a new wing-back, centre back and forward before the summer transfer window slams shut on September 1, and director of football Fabio Paratici is already on the case after the latest reports have revealed that he has ‘jetted to Italy’ to engage in transfer talks.
As per the report from Italy, Paratici has travelled to his homeland to meet with Tiago Pinto, Roma’s transfer chief, in a bid to convince the Italians to part ways with Nicolo Zaniolo, who he has long been an admirer of. The 22-year-old recorded eight goals and nine assists in 42 games in all competitions last season as Roma finished 6th in Serie A and won the UEFA Europa Conference League.
Zaniolo has been remarked as one of the top talents in Italy and hugely impressed under Jose Mourinho during his first season in charge of the Stadio Olimpico outfit. As well as operating on the right wing, the Italian can also be used as an attacking midfielder, although with Conte’s preferred 3-4-3 formation, he will be expected to compete out-wide.

But it isn’t just incomings that Paratici is looking to advance negotiations with during his time back in Italy, with Di Marzio also detailing that he is looking to try and offload out-of-favour duo Bryan Gil and Joe Rodon, as Spurs look to bolster that transfer budget with player sales.
Gil only moved to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last summer, but struggled to cement a starting spot under both Nuno Espirito Santo and Conte during the first half of last season, in which he recorded just one assist in 20 games in all competitions, before securing a loan move to Valencia for the remainder of the campaign in the January transfer window.
The Spaniard may have only registered one more assist in 17 games for the La Liga outfit, but he performed much better and even became a fan favourite. However, despite it being reported that Conte was set to take another look at the 21-year-old in pre-season, Paratici has now scheduled talks with Sampdoria over a potential loan move for the winger.
And Rodon’s future is also hanging in the balance too, although it will be less of a surprise should he depart north London this summer, after falling well down the pecking order of Tottenham’s defensive options last summer, despite Conte playing with three at the back.
The central defender made just 10 appearances in all competitions last season and as a result, a departure is now on the cards this summer, although only on a temporary basis as Spurs remain keen on keeping him on their books. And according to reports in Italy, the Welshman could be used to sweeten a deal with Roma for the signing of Zaniolo.
Mourinho has been linked with raiding his former clubs in this year’s transfer window and could be swayed on the idea of bringing in Rodon on loan next season, who is said to be a big fan of the Welshman having overseen his transfer from Swansea City two years ago.
