Chris Wilder keen on Nottingham Forest job as under-fire boss Chris Hughton speaks out

Chris Hughton says he is working flat out to get results going his way and the Nottingham Forest fans on his side after a dire start to the season.

Forest prop up the Championship after just one point from six games following five defeats by a single goal.

It has left former Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder eyeing the role if Forest’s Greek owners pull the trigger.

But Hughton insists he is working night and day to turn the club’s plight around amid criticism from fans ahead of Middlesbrough’s visit on Wednesday.

Under-pressure Hughton, 62, in charge since last October, admitted: “It is an uncomfortable time.

“This season has been difficult because we all want to do well.

Should Hughton be sacked? Have your say.

Time to go? Chris Hughton is under pressure at Nottingham Forest

“It has been a hugely disappointing season so far in terms of points and a very poor start.

“But fear is something I never have.

“Pressure is always there.

“I am managing a big, fabulous club with a huge support base.

“Our supporters are turning up in their thousands.

“There is pressure to get results for them.

“But my focus is to get a team together to get the required points we need to get us out of the position we are in.

“When things are not going well, we are working harder than ever and it is very long hours.

“The last person the players need to see down in the dumps and not on decent form , is the manager.

“But I don’t see a changing room that is down or desperately thinking: ‘where is that next point going to come from?’

“We are conscious we need to get wins and quickly.

“It is my responsibility to turn those margins our way.”

As well as Wilder, former Chelsea skipper and ex-Aston Villa assistant John Terry has been linked the vacancy.

But the ex-England ace took to Instagram on Tuesday to distance himself from the role saying: “Chris is the manager and someone I have a lot of respect for. I wish Chris and the team all the very best for the season.”

Hughton responded: “I don’t have any type of social media but is always good to get those nice words.”
