Romelu Lukaku’s reaction to finding out his loan move back to Inter Milan had been agreed has been revealed.
The Belgium international is due to return to the Serie A outfit after having a difficult second spell at Stamford Bridge. Lukaku managed just 15 goals in all competitions last season after becoming the club’s recording signing after joining from Inter for £97.5million.
It comes as Thomas Tuchel is set to make the big transfer decisions following the announcement that director Marina Granovskaia is leaving the club. And that departure is set to line up a new temporary role for Blues owner Todd Boehly.
Here are Mirror Football’s latest Chelsea headlines.
Lukaku’s reaction to Inter agreement
Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku reportedly broke down in tears after learning the club had agreed to loan him back to Inter Milan next season.
The Belgium international is set to return to Italy on a one-year deal after Inter chiefs struck an agreement over a €8million loan fee with the Blues, with Lukaku understood to have taken a pay cut to leave Stamford Bridge. And reports coming out of Italy suggest the forward became a little bit emotional when he learned the agreement had been reached between the two clubs.
Lukaku will now have a medical at the Serie A outfit next week before joining up with his new teammates for pre-season.
Tuchel to make transfer decisions
Thomas Tuchel is set to be handed a lot more power over the club’s recruitment following the news that transfer guru Marina Granovskaia is set to leave.
Granovskaia has led on transfer negotiations in recent years, gaining respect across the footballing world for her ability to drive tough but fair deals. As a result of the departure, Tuchel will be handed more power than he has ever had at Stamford Bridge – but he will be expected to deliver cost-effective signings.
It comes with the Blues keen to avoid any mistakes similar to the decision to bring LUkaku back to the club in a record-breaking deal a year ago.
Boehly’s new role
Todd Boehly will act as interim sporting director to handle Chelsea’s summer transfer dealings.
Chelsea and Boehly face a hectic summer of transfer dealings ahead, once Romelu Lukaku’s return to Inter Milan on a one-year loan is fully confirmed. The Belgium striker’s switch back to Inter will allow the Blues to focus on incoming signings, with the likes of Sevilla’s Jules Kounde and Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling still expected to move to the Stamford Bridge outfit.
Boehly has already involved himself with the club’s transfer dealings this summer, overseeing the negotiations for Romelu Lukaku’s loan return to Inter Milan.
