Arnold Allen confident two victories in 2022 will earn him UFC featherweight title shot

Arnold Allen is confident he is two wins away from earning a UFC title shot.

The promotion is discussing a fight between Allen and Dan Hooker at UFC London on March 19, with ‘Almighty’ calling for the fight to headline the card.

Allen, who is ranked No.7, was plagued by a hand injury that kept him out of competition for the rest of 2021 following his win against Sodiq Yusuff las April.

The Suffolk-based fighter – who is unbeaten in over seven years – is only keen on taking fights that progress him closer to a title shot.

And Allen thinks if he gets a win at UFC London in March, he could be one fight away from a shot at the belt.

“Being in the top 10 now and being amongst the big boys, you’re probably going to fight less when you’re up at that edge anyway,” he told Mirror Fighting.

“Two fights [this year] is the goal, two is the minimum target. I wanna win a couple of fights and I think with the right wins, I should be in title talks.

“If I beat, allegedly, this fight that’s happening in March, then another one after that and I don’t see why not.”

Alex Volkanovski – who currently holds the featherweight title – was scheduled to defend his belt in a trilogy fight against Max Holloway at UFC 272 in March.

But the fight has now been moved to UFC 273 and Volkanovski will face ‘The Korean Zombie’ after Holloway withdrew.

And Allen thinks a fight against the Korean would be an easier matchup than facing Hooker.

“Korean Zombie, I’m a big fan of him. I wanted that fight for a while, I think the way he fights suits me pretty well but you never know, he might be champ next,” he added.

“Stylistically I think Korean Zombie is better for me [than Hooker]. I’ve watched him, more as a fan to be fair, just growing up watching his fights I know what he’s good at and bad at.

Allen believes pound-for-pound No.2 Volkanovski doesn’t get the respect he deserves as a champion and has backed him to beat Zombie at UFC 273.

“I think Volkanovski wins that. I think he wins it pretty well to be honest. He’s such a good strategist in his gameplan,” Allen continued.

“Korean Zombie is someone you have to have a gameplan and stick to it with, because everyone kind of knows what he’s gonna do.

“Volkanovski is always super fit, super strong and not only that but he has a solid gameplan he sticks too. He’s gonna figure out Korean Zombie I’m pretty sure.”
